Startups 100 2023 Anansi listed and runner up ecommerce award

We are super happy to share that from hundreds of business applicants across the UK, Anansi has been included in the 2023 Startups 100 Index, and has also been recognised in a specialist ecommerce award, finishing as runner up.

What does the Startups 100 index recognise?

The Startups 100 Index is the UK’s longest-running index of the 100 most innovative startup businesses, identifying UK businesses that have launched in the last five years and are disrupting their respective industries. The list showcases the best of British innovation and entrepreneurship, and previous alumni include Monzo, Deliveroo and HelloFresh.

How does the scoring work?

A weighted score is given to every business based on five key criteria:

  • Finance
  • External validation
  • Size of opportunity
  • Innovation
  • Strength of concept

The scores are then averaged out to give an overall ranking for the Startups 100 Index 2023.

Richard Paris, Editor of Startups.co.uk, says: “The 2023 Startups 100 shows businesses don’t have to sacrifice profits to have purpose. Against a backdrop of gloomy global events we can see UK entrepreneurs creating new ventures that not only create jobs but also make a real difference to the world around them – I think this is the inspiration we all need to take into the year ahead.”

Specialist awards

This year, as well as commemorating the top 100 new businesses in the UK, Startups.co.uk wanted to also recognise the startups that prioritise people, planet, or purpose as much as profit.  They introduced a number of specialist awards categories to highlight the businesses that  are pioneering positive change in important areas, or demonstrating an inspiring and unique business journey.

Joining the judges’ table were famous entrepreneurial faces Sahar Hashemi, Ian Wallis, Rachel McClelland, Christopher Kenna, Eloise Skinner, Alison Loveday, Andrea Pattico, and Deann Evans. Each of these exceptional business leaders was tasked with selecting the standout top 100 businesses in eight categories.

Anansi selected as runner up in the ecommerce award

The award for ecommerce celebrates specialist businesses that are showing evidence of genuine innovation in the competitive ecommerce space to support seamless consumer experience.

Anansi is over the moon to be chosen as a runner up in this specialist ecommerce award and to rank in the prestigious index.  We’re on a mission to solve the colossal protection gap of only 10% of goods being shipped with insurance and are excited to help more ecommerce businesses protect their goods and their customer experience.

We’re proud of our innovative goods-in-transit embedded insurance product that provides a solution for the underserved 12M ecommerce merchants, and their fulfillment partners, who currently rely on inadequate shipping protection provided by couriers.

Deann Evans, Director of EMEA Expansion & Partnerships at Shopify and guest on the judging panel, says: “solving a complex and costly problem for independent businesses. The impressive Anansi team clearly has deep commerce experience and is building a mission-driven and inclusive company.”
